The importance of grinding coffee at home.

Coffee grinders

The easiest way to improve the quality of coffee, and to achieve the right texture, is to grind fresh coffee beans with a good grinder. People tend not to pay much attention to their grindings despite paying the price for quality coffee. At Van Hove Coffee we always ask our customers what type of machine they want to use for our coffee. Then we adjust our grinder to match the grind to the customer's request. Some machines, such as espresso machines, require a much finer grind and it is not always easy to find the perfect grind. In addition, coffee tends to dry out once ground and the result will vary depending on whether the coffee is drunk immediately after grinding or later in the week. Therefore, there is nothing better than to grind your coffee day by day and to adjust it precisely to the whims of your machine.

There are 3 types of mills:

The blade mill:

It is very common and works as long as you press the button. The problem is that it will be very difficult to get the same density of coffee particles from one cup to another. It is cheap but not the most efficient way to grind coffee. It is more often used for pepper or other spices.

The filter coffee grinder with conical or flat wheels:

You will have to pay a little more but the advantage of the grinders is that they grind the beans evenly. It has several adjustable positions to suit any type of coffee machine (espresso, Italian, piston, filters,...). This type of grinder exists in manual or electric.

The espresso mill:

Unlike the filter coffee grinder, it is designed to grind only for one type of machine, the espresso machine. It allows to grind very finely in order to obtain the best possible quality in the cup.
