Why coffee beans and not capsules?

A9 top view

We often hear that the capsule is great, it's practical and it's cool. It's not wrong. But have you ever thought that there could be an alternative that is just as cool, just as practical, just as environmentally friendly and just as cheap? The capsule is expensive and far from beneficial to our beautiful planet.

Is the capsule expensive?

Yes, it is extremely expensive. If we take a well-known brand, we can even say that drinking coffee has become a luxury that should discourage many consumers from drinking this delicious beverage.

A capsule costs between €0.38 and €0.48 per unit. For our freshly roasted coffee beans, the price varies between 18 and 22 € per kilo. You should know that 1 kilo of coffee beans can make up to 120 cups. The calculation is therefore simple: if you take a capsule at 0.43 cents and multiply it by 120 to get the equivalent of 120 cups and therefore a kilo of coffee beans, you arrive at 51.6 € of capsules. So you pay €51.6 for a kilo of coffee instead of an average of €20 from a roaster. Isn't that crazy?

Buying a capsule machine is like buying a printer. The machine is cheap but the cartridges are expensive.

What about the planet?

Capsules are far from being the best thing for our planet. Why is that? Simply because they cause a lot of waste. Each capsule consumed is a piece of aluminium and plastic that will be thrown away. With a bean-to-cup machine, however, there is no waste. The coffee, once ground and percolated, is transformed into grounds that you can throw away in your garden. Coffee grounds are an excellent fertilizer. It is also very useful for cleaning and maintaining your pipes thanks to its abrasive and degreasing properties.

What about health?

Numerous studies prove that aluminium is far from being the best thing for your health. So what do you use it for in your coffee? Again, if you choose a good artisanal coffee you can be sure of what you are consuming.

It's cool and practical?

Yes, the capsule is cool and it's also very practical. You just put the capsule in the machine and press a button.

What about the bean-to-cup machine? It's just as convenient, you just put coffee in the tank and press a button. Some machines come with a reservoir that can hold up to 25 cups. And frankly, isn't it cooler to hear the sound of the grinder and the smell of freshly ground coffee coming out of it?

So the bean-to-cup machine is cool, even more convenient than the capsule machine, good for the planet and for your health.

So you are still a fan of capsules? If, like us, you are convinced to buy a bean-to-cup machine, come and visit us in shop. And it's much better 😉
